Canada’s Ultimate Guide to Brunch

As a famous Simpsons episode once proclaimed,“It’s not quite breakfast, it’s not quite lunch but it comes with a little slice of cantaloupe at the end. You don’t get completely what you would at breakfast, but you get a good meal.”

We at Marijuana.com couldn’t have said it better, except that said brunch should be enjoyed immediately after a good wake & bake. So, for all you Canadians that enjoy a jolt of sativa with a bold cup of coffee or a mellow indica on a slow morning, here are some brunch options in your neck of the woods that will quell even the strongest case of the munchies.

Leonhard’s Cafe and Restaurant

First, we start way at the Eastern end of the country in Charlottetown, PEI. Leonhard’s Cafe and Restaurant comes highly recommended by locals and tourists alike. There’s simply no experience like biting into a piece of freshly baked homemade bread, right after you’ve been freshly baked.

Sweet Belgian Desire

If you find yourself looking for a great brunch in Fredericton New Brunswick, as soon as you see the menu for Sweet Belgian Desire you won’t waffle on this place. With several choices of gourmet omelettes, eggs benedict, bacon in a variety of forms and of course Belgian waffles, this restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy a fabulous late morning.

Bacalao

The first two items on this incredible St. John’s Newfoundland brunch menu are their signature Bloody Caesars and Mimosas, so for those of you who wake & bake but don’t have much experience mixing that with cocktails, be forewarned that your intellectual breakfast conversation can wind up sounding more like Sesame Street to the other diners. For people who insist on eating their meals, Bacalao’s food is to die for and mixed with a lot of locally sourced items including Newfoundland’s famous seafood.

Maison Publique

As always when it comes to fantastic food, the French are the creme de la creme. They brought us poutine, game over. So when it comes to brunch in Montreal, Maison Publique sets the bar. Their menu constantly changes but everything on it is always the best meal you’ve had in a long time.

Little Schmiddy’s Hot Meat House

For those of us who start salivating like Pavlov’s dog at the mere mention of gourmet meat, then look no further than Little Schmiddy’s Hot Meat House in Toronto. Their brunch menu reads like an afternoon watching The Food Network, incredibly diverse and delicious. One of their big brunch favourites is the open-faced brisket sandwich which is topped with a fried egg, black beans, avocado, roasted tomato and basil. Outstanding.

Buccacino’s

In Winnipeg there’s no brunch quite like Buccacino’s. It’s an all-you-can-eat buffet with scrambled eggs and eggs benedict, hash browns, bacon, sausage, smoked ham, a fresh waffle station, french toast, croissants, fresh baked pastries assorted salads and lots more. You’d think food was going out of style.

This remarkable place in Saskatoon has such sparkling reviews, at first glance, you’d think Poached Breakfast Bistro was the fountain of youth. But hearing the sounds of their scrumptious menu, like the bacon roll-ups, eggs benedict with asparagus or chicken sausage and french toast blueberry bagels to name a few, it’s easy to see why this one would make our list.

The Sugar Bowl

Billed as “The Sweetest Place in Edmonton since 1943,” the Sugar Bowl has a small but spectacular menu with all the favourites. From their signature cinnamon buns, to their bacon and three cheese mushroom omelette, to the spicy huevos rancheros, no trip to Alberta is complete without a visit to this place.

Twisted Fork Bistro

This downtown Vancouver eatery lives up to its name, having some of the most unique and interesting brunch dishes around. They have a green onion, mixed bell pepper and zucchini scrambled eggs dish, banana-stuffed brioche french toast sprinkled with cinnamon icing sugar or perhaps well-done gruyere baked eggs as a choice.

Trader’s Grill
62 2

If you are among the toughest of Canadians who live all the way up in Yellowknife Northwest Territories, roll a fatty, dig your way through the snow and head over to Trader’s Grill, inside the Explorer Hotel. This Sunday brunch has been called “the best in the North” for their  enormous smorgasbord of food.
