The World’s Most Relaxing Chai Tea Latte
Hi! Keira from Ambrosia here to share one of my personal favorite recipes: Cannabis Infused Chai Tea Latte. Chai Tea Lattes are a great way to start the morning, or a relaxing option to wind down in the evening. With the added benefits provided by marijuana, this hot beverage is equal parts delicious and therapeutic. Natural spices (ginger root, clove bud, allspice) work to get your digestive system moving while the THC provides relaxation and stress relief.
Although tea is relatively simple to make, it can prove equally easy to make a misstep, resulting in unpleasantly bitter tasting tea and disappointment. With the following recipe, we’ll properly show how to infuse the best properties of cannabis while also maximizing the chai tea flavors we know and love.
As always, let’s properly prepare with the following ingredients and tools:
Ingredients:
- Double Spice Chai Black Tea (2 bags)
- Sugar cubes (3)
- ½ gram cannabis (ground)
- 1 cup of water
- ½ stick unsalted butter (melted)
- Milk
- Whip cream
- Cinnamon
Tools:
- String
- Coffee filter
- Cooking Pot
*Makes 2 servings/cups
Step 1: Cannabis Bag
First, we’re going to make a cannabis bag to steep in hot water. THC is not soluble in water and requires a fatty substance to attach itself to under the high heat, which is where our butter comes in. Combine your finely ground cannabis (use a grinder for best results) and your melted unsalted butter. Mix using a spoon until the butter and cannabis create a dark brown, gooey mixture.
Pour the mixture into a coffee filter. Lift edges up and tie off with string. Make sure the cannabis bag is secured tightly. We don’t want any of the cannabis leaves to fall into the water.
Step 2: Boiling Water
Now that we have our cannabis bag ready to go, let’s infuse. Bring 1 cup of water to a boil over high heat. Once the water has reached a rolling boil, reduce heat to a high simmer and submerge your cannabis tea bag. Allow the bag to simmer for 20-30 minutes, activating the THC and infusing the water.
TIP: It’s crucial to boil the water ONCE. If you boil the water a second time (let the water get cold, then boil it again), the oxygen levels drop and your tea will taste flat. If you boil the cannabis a second time or boil for too long, you can kill the THC you just finished activating.
Step 3: Let Tea Steep
Once our water has been properly infused, we can steep the tea bag. Steeping black tea can prove to be tricky. Black tea is oxidized, or fermented, meaning it requires hotter water than other teas. The ideal temperature is 180-195 degrees Fahrenheit. Steeping black tea with water that isn’t hot enough can prevent the key substances in black tea from activating. This means you’ll want to act quickly once you remove your pot from the stove.
Step 4: Milk, Cream, Cinnamon
Okay, your tea is properly steeped. Now slowly pour in ½ cup of milk (full cup if making 2 cups of tea) and stir.
Add sugar (optional). Top off with a quick spray of whip cream and a pinch of cinnamon to add an extra kick of sweetness.
Step 5: Enjoy
Mmmmmmmm! Sorry, I got ahead of myself. I forgot to say “You’re done!” Go ahead and taste your delicious cannabis-infused Chai Tea Latte! It’s very Mmmmmmmm, right?
