{"id":10795,"date":"2025-07-28T16:17:27","date_gmt":"2025-07-28T16:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/?p=7229136"},"modified":"2025-07-28T16:17:27","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T16:17:27","slug":"denver-warns-of-illegal-psilocybin-laced-chocolates-at-gas-stations-stores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/denver-warns-of-illegal-psilocybin-laced-chocolates-at-gas-stations-stores\/","title":{"rendered":"Denver warns of illegal psilocybin-laced chocolates at gas stations, stores"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/denver-warns-of-illegal-psilocybin-laced-chocolates-at-gas-stations-stores\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><div class=\"media_block\"><\/div>\n<div><img src=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/denver-warns-of-illegal-psilocybin-laced-chocolates-at-gas-stations-stores.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Denver officials are warning consumers that they have found edible products made with psilocybin mushrooms for sale, illegally, at local gas stations and vape stores.<\/p>\n<p>Officials recently tested chocolate bars from a brand called West Coast Gold Caps and confirmed the presence of psilocybin, a psychoactive ingredient in \u201cmagic mushrooms.\u201d While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2024\/02\/05\/colorado-psychedelics-decriminalization-law-psilocybin-shrooms-dmt-mescaline-arrest\/\">psilocybin is decriminalized<\/a> for personal use, cultivation and sharing in Colorado, it is illegal to sell the drug.<\/p>\n<p>These chocolates and similar products \u201cmight not be labeled with their actual ingredients and pose a danger to public health,\u201d stated a bulletin from the Denver Department of Excise and Licenses.<\/p>\n<p>That was the case last summer when edibles from a company called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2024\/08\/08\/4-aco-dmt-synthetic-psilocybin-diamond-shruumz-recall-magic-mushrooms-colorado\/\">Diamond Shruumz poisoned more than 100 people<\/a>, including a couple in Colorado. The brand advertised with trippy iconography and language promoting \u201cmicrodosing,\u201d suggesting they contained psilocybin. But because these products are not regulated, it is difficult to know what is in them.<\/p>\n<p>The Food and Drug Administration tested several Dimaond Shruumz edibles and found they contained a compound called 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine, also known as 4-acO-DMT, which is a synthetic version of psilocybin. The FDA also found other chemicals, such as the prescription drug Pregabalin and compounds extracted from the kava plant. Some products contained psilocin, which occurs naturally in psychedelic mushrooms.
