general manager <a href=\"http:\/\/www.detroitlions.com\/team\/staff\/martin-mayhew\/c907f443-35e8-40fb-a48b-512e27d1b778\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Mayhew<\/a> has indicated that he is not overly concerned with his players being arrested for marijuana.\u00a0 Building on this trend internationally, Australia\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ausport.gov.au\/information\/finding_sport_information\/topic\/national\" target=\"_blank\">Coalition of Major Professional and Participation Sports<\/a> has recently said that marijuana should not be grouped with performance enhancing drugs such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drugabuse.gov\/publications\/infofacts\/steroids-anabolic-androgenic\" target=\"_blank\">steroids<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Growth_hormone\" target=\"_blank\">Human Growth Hormone<\/a>.\u00a0 Unlike the United States (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS etc.), Australia has one organization that represents many of the different professional sports.\u00a0 As Martin Mayhew suggested, the culture is changing and athletes in their prime are in their 20s.\u00a0 Altering the approach professional sports takes on marijuana seems to be very crucial moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>We have already witnessed the pressure put on the United States and President Obama from our neighbors to the south to change marijuana laws.\u00a0 Now, mayors from British Columbia cities in Canada are also calling for a new approach to cannabis law enforcement.\u00a0 Eight mayors are now officially calling for marijuana legalization in order to reduce crime and violence associated with cannabis laws. \u00a0The mayors are also seeking to generate tax funds from a regulated marijuana system.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, <a href=\"http:\/\/vancouver.ca\/ctyclerk\/mayorcouncil\/mayorrobertson.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Mayor Gregor Robertson<\/a> of Vancouver recently stated in a letter to the Canadian government, \u201cAs mayors of BC municipalities, we are fully aware of the harms stemming from the province\u2019s large illegal marijuana industry, \u201cOur communities have been deeply affected by the consequences of marijuana prohibition including large-scale grow-ops, increased organized crime and ongoing gang violence.\u00a0 It is time to tax and strictly regulate marijuana under a public health framework;
