Smith\u2019s <\/a>failed crusade to crush the internet with the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act\" target=\"_blank\">SOPA<\/a> legislation which encountered an embarrassing political death.\u00a0 The SOPA bill clearly appeared to suffer from a lack of research and analysis as to just how far reaching it would be.\u00a0 Mr. McConnell recently told a constituent in a letter that he cannot support marijuana legalization because \u201cit leads to death\u201d.\u00a0 He then also said that THC was available in pill form indicating that legalization is not necessary.\u00a0 The Minority Leader was likely referring to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmedhealth\/PMH0000403\/\" target=\"_blank\">Marinol<\/a>, which has proven to ultimately not be nearly as effective medically as unprocessed natural marijuana.\u00a0 McConnell took his statements even further and said he had concerns that marijuana legalization would not be following \u201cthe scientific process\u201d of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">FDA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Advocates of marijuana will most certainly take offense to McConnell\u2019s statement about the scientific process.\u00a0 This has become the new criticism as decades of fear mongering talking points against marijuana have been proven hollow.\u00a0 However, many are left to scratch their heads as to how exactly marijuana is supposed to closely follow \u201cthe scientific process\u201d of the FDA if our government officials use every resource at their disposal to deny any such research.<\/p>\n<p>Marijuana reform has the support of the<a href=\"http:\/\/norml.org\/component\/zoo\/category\/surveys-polls\" target=\"_blank\"> majority of Americans<\/a> and Mr. McConnell and those like him may regret their stubbornness on this issue.\u00a0 This is not the only area where the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gop.com\/GetConnected\/GetConnected.htm\" target=\"_blank\">GOP <\/a>seems to be out of step with Americans.\u00a0 The race for the Republican nomination for president has turned largely into a battle of antiquated ideologies.\u00a0 The race is now about eliminating abortion rights, contraception, and women\u2019s health.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/supct\/html\/historics\/USSC_CR_0410_0113_ZS.html\" target=\"_blank\">Roe v.
