Smith (R-TX<\/strong>)<\/a>.\u00a0 If SOPA is approved it would grant the U.S. government the right to seek court orders against websites who are accused of facilitating copyright infringement.\u00a0 Search engines and ISPs would be required to block access to such sites.\u00a0 There are also many other restrictions that alter the current landscape of our leading source of information.\u00a0 The main proponents of the bill feel that online piracy needs to be punished, however, major <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.slashdot.org\/story\/11\/12\/18\/1836249\/sopa-creator-in-tvfilmmusic-industrys-pocket\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>lobbyists from the music and movie industries<\/strong><\/a> have donated hundreds of thousands to Lamar Smith\u2019s campaign which has angered many critics.<\/p>\n<p>Those who sponsored the bill do not seem to grasp the far reaching implications this legislation could have.\u00a0 In a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.burntorangereport.com\/diary\/11747\/sopa-author-lamar-smith-rtx-breaks-copyright-law-on-his-own-website\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>recent article<\/strong><\/a>, writer Ben Sherman explains ironically that on Rep.
