May Create Program to Subsidize Poor Medical<\/strong><br \/><strong> Marijuana Patients&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fiscal conservatives will likely have a field day criticizing a new<br \/> proposal by city government officials in D.C. \u00a0Others will praise a<br \/> proposal aimed at helping struggling patients who may not be able to<br \/> afford their medication. \u00a0D.C. city officials are considering a<br \/> program that would require dispensary operators to put aside 2% of<br \/> profits in order to subsidize lower income patients who may not be<br \/> able to afford their medication. \u00a0While there have been calls in many<br \/> municipalities across the nation to address access to the poor, there<br \/> has not been any initiative such as this one from any government<br \/> entity.. \u00a0Arizona allows for a reduced registration fee for low income<br \/> patients and many dispensaries have taken it upon themselves to offer<br \/> discounted meds but there have yet to be significant laws requiring<br \/> this. \u00a0One issue in the medical marijuana world is that medicine is<br \/> often priced at the prohibition street prices. \u00a0Allen St. Pierre, of<br \/> NORML, said \u201cThe rule is totally unprecedented in the medical<br \/> marijuana community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2013\/aug\/21\/dc-government-program-subsidize-pot-poor-patients\/\" target=\"_blank\">For more on this story click here<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>National Marijuana Expert Suggests Fed Government Enter into a<\/strong><br \/><strong> Contract with Washington and Colorado on Medical Marijuana&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In an ideal world, the federal government would respect the laws and<br \/> wishes of state residents. \u00a0For decades many have tried to make this a<br \/> reality. \u00a0Marijuana reform activists have lobbied the federal<br \/> government to rethink their outdated position that marijuana is one of<br \/> the most dangerous substances on Earth, even more so than cocaine. \u00a0A<br \/> leading expert on marijuana law, and professor of public policy, Mark<br \/> Kleiman, is seeking to change this. \u00a0Mr. Kleinman is the lead<br \/> consultant for Washington state on their recently legalized medical<br \/> marijuana program. \u00a0The professor suggested that the Department of<br \/> Justice could enter into a contract with Colorado and Washington which<br \/> would have the states do everything in their power to prevent<br \/> marijuana from flooding other markets while the federal government<br \/> would vow not to prosecute the states who would be in violation of<br \/> federal law. \u00a0Earlier this week he told reporters &#8220;I think that<br \/> authorizes the (attorney general) to essentially enter into treaties<br \/> with Colorado and Washington&#8230;
