{"id":4937,"date":"2015-10-29T22:47:17","date_gmt":"2015-10-29T22:47:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.420magazine.com\/?p=3896"},"modified":"2015-10-29T22:47:17","modified_gmt":"2015-10-29T22:47:17","slug":"utah-lawmaker-hip-for-hemp-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/utah-lawmaker-hip-for-hemp-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Utah Lawmaker Hip For Hemp Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/utah-lawmaker-hip-for-hemp-research\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><p>Utah lawmakers are hoping to find a way to adjust federal law to allow for Utah\u2019s institutions of higher education to research the health and economic aspects of cannabis or hemp products.<\/p>\n<p>Republican representative Gage Froerer told members of the health and human services committee this week that he is working with Utah\u2019s Congressional delegation to encourage a change in Federal Drug Administration policy that would allow researchers to move forward in determining the possible agricultural, medical, and economic uses of hemp and cannabis products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very important that we head down the research path,&#8221; Froerer said. &#8220;We need to know exactly what this does and how it effects patients and impacts individual diseases. We also need to look at the agricultural and production side and the economic benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing able to go into a lab and pull the substance apart and test each little component, understand it, synthesize it, reconfigure it, modify it and put it into a pill,&#8221;. Meanwhile, let\u2019s not deny these patients the benefit we know that science shows us that they get because science hasn\u2019t caught up and science doesn\u2019t understand perfectly why the FDA hasn\u2019t caught up,\u201d he said. \u201cDo we wait for that research or do we go ahead?<\/p>\n<p>In March 2015 Froerer was successful in passing what is referred to as \u201cCharlee\u2019s Law\u201d, or HB 150, which allows for some epilepsy patients in Utah to access hemp extract oil to treat the disorder. Since then at least ten other states have passed similar laws.
