Cuomo signed two new &#8220;emergency medical marijuana&#8221; bills into effect. The chronic new legislation is meant to help establish and expedite the distribution of medical marijuana to qualified patients throughout New York State.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>On June 15, 2015 the New York legislature gave <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislativegazette.com\/Articles-Top-Stories-c-2015-06-15-92103.113122-Emergency-medical-marijuana-bill-passes-Assembly.html#Emergency%20medical%20marijuana%20bill%20passes%20Assembly%20\" target=\"_blank\">Assembly Bill 7060<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2015\/s5086\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Bill 5086<\/a> their unequivocal support; the passage of these two bills mandates that politicians in the Empire State are to create a new <strong>emergency medical marijuana program<\/strong>, thereby expediting the designation and distribution of medical marijuana to those critically ill patients.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_30091\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-30091\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marijuana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/cuomo.jpg?2a095a\" alt=\" New York Gov. signs emergency medical marijuana bills\" width=\"250\" height=\"166\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">New York Gov. signs medical marijuana legislation<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Thankfully<\/em>, Governor Cuomo signed on the dotted line \u2026 just a few short hours before the midnight deadline.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drugpolicy.org\/news\/2015\/11\/breaking-gov-cuomo-signs-medical-marijuana-emergency-access-bill#Breaking:%20Gov.%20Cuomo%20Signs%20Medical%20Marijuana%20Emergency%20Access%20Bill%20\" target=\"_blank\">Drug Policy Alliance<\/a>, <em>\u201cAfter months of pressure from patients and advocates, Gov. Cuomo signed a bill today that will expedite access to medical marijuana for critically ill patients. In June, with overwhelming bipartisan support, both houses of the legislature passed A.7060 (Gottfried) \/ S.5086 (Griffo), directing the state to establish a program to help critically ill patients obtain emergency access to medical marijuana as soon as possible.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While many are hopeful that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marijuana.com\/blog\/news\/2015\/09\/new-york-city-to-open-first-medical-marijuana-dispensary-in-january\/\" target=\"_blank\">New York\u2019s medical marijuana program will roll out on time<\/a>, becoming operational by January of 2016,\u00a0there are serious concerns among some the program will fail to fire up as originally scheduled. As yet, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marijuana.com\/blog\/news\/2014\/06\/breaking-new-york-legalizes-medical-marijuana-state-but-you-cant-smoke-it\/\" target=\"_blank\">New York&#8217;s political heavy hitters<\/a> have yet to cultivate a realistic system for medical marijuana patients to register \u2013 let alone receive their meds.<\/p>\n<p>Per the DPA, many received this announcement as nothing short of a lifesaver:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI am so very relieved that Governor Cuomo has signed this bill,\u201d explained Missy Miller of Atlantic Beach, whose son Oliver suffers from life-threatening seizures. \u201cI once again have hope that I will be able to offer my son the chance at significant relief. This gives Oliver and the truly sickest patients across NY the opportunity to get access to medical marijuana expeditiously, thereby relieving suffering. This has been an incredibly long and difficult process, but I have renewed faith in my home state. This will become real to me when Oliver gets the medicine he needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h6><em><a href=\"https:\/\/weedmaps.com\/ny#High,%20NYC\" target=\"_blank\">High, NYC<\/a><\/em><\/h6>\n<p>Unfortunately, the potential failure of New York&#8217;s MMJ program is a real concern for many. Thus far, the Empire State has struggled with the simple implementation of the Health Department\u2019s online training course for <a href=\"https:\/\/weedmaps.com\/doctors\" target=\"_blank\">doctors hoping to offer recommendations<\/a> to the sick and suffering.
