Growing leaps and bounds from last year’s crowd of 13,000, and blasting past 2013’s attendance of 7,000, the seedling for the E Cup was initially planted in Mendocino County over 12 years ago.

Originally held outside, this once mud covered and saturated event was relocated to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds after 2012 – helping the event to triple its overall attendance. Well-liked among the many growers that call the “Emerald Triangle” home, the Emerald cup originally started as a local competition between cultivators in Northern California’s Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity counties.

“Cherry Limeaid” Smokes Competition at The Emerald Cup

The event’s initial intention was straightforward and critical; to enlighten the cannabis community about the virtues of Sun grown, organically fed, marijuana. As such, the E-Cup is not only a contest that selects merely the best strains in their respective category, but rather a gathering of the Tribes for Northern California’s many cultivators and 420 aficionados.

This year, Jackson Zenter’s “Cherry Limeaid” left the competition in a cloud of smoke.
