{"id":5327,"date":"2016-01-09T22:18:03","date_gmt":"2016-01-09T22:18:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marijuana.com\/?p=46127"},"modified":"2016-01-09T22:18:03","modified_gmt":"2016-01-09T22:18:03","slug":"study-concludes-biking-while-high-on-marijuana-isnt-dangerous","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/study-concludes-biking-while-high-on-marijuana-isnt-dangerous\/","title":{"rendered":"Study Concludes Biking While High on Marijuana Isn\u2019t Dangerous"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/study-concludes-biking-while-high-on-marijuana-isnt-dangerous\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><p>Bike messengers everywhere, rejoice: A\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s00414-015-1307-y\">new study<\/a> has found that marijuana use appears not to negatively impact the ability to safely ride a bicycle.<\/p>\n<p>The participants in the experiment rode a bike through an obstacle course while completely sober and then after smoking one, two and three joints.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">&#8220;Hardly any coordinative disturbances could be detected under the influence of high or very high THC concentrations,&#8221; the study,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">published by the International Journal of Legal Medicine this week, found.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_46130\" style=\"width: 408px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-46130\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marijuana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Screen-Shot-2016-01-08-at-10.24.05-AM.png?dc83c3\" alt=\"A representation of the course that participants had to bike while stoned.\" width=\"398\" height=\"271\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A diagram\u00a0of the course that stoned participants had to bike.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The study, titled, &#8220;The effect of cannabis on regular cannabis consumers&#8217; ability to ride a bicycle,&#8221; was conducted by German and Austrian researchers.<\/p>\n<p>The cannabis cigarettes, which were\u00a0standardized to\u00a0contain 300 micrograms of THC per kilogram of body weight, were supplied by\u00a0Dutch grower Bedrocan with the approval of the German government. Test participants &#8220;were instructed to consume the joints in the following way: 4-s inhalation, 10-s holding breath, and 15-s exhalation,&#8221; the study says.<\/p>\n<p>While cycling the obstacle\u00a0course, the fourteen participants in the study were given\u00a0demerits for errors like leaving the track, knocking over barrels, swerving, running a red light and\u00a0failing to go at a green light. Along the way, they had to slalom between poles and were presented with distractions like balls rolling in their path, verbal interruptions and\u00a0being subjected to the glare of torch lights.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hardly any driving faults occurred under the influence of cannabis,&#8221; the researchers wrote. &#8220;Only a few driving faults were observed even under the influence of very high THC concentrations&#8230;\u00a0On average, there is no increase in the number of demerits after the cannabis consumption.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>None of this\u00a0is\u00a0to say that operating any vehicle, particularly automobiles, while under the influence of marijuana or other drugs, is recommended.<\/p>\n<p>Driving\u00a0while stoned is illegal, even in states that have ended cannabis prohibition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bike messengers everywhere, rejoice: A\u00a0new study has found that marijuana use appears not to negatively impact the ability to safely ride a bicycle.
