{"id":5366,"date":"2016-01-13T22:32:45","date_gmt":"2016-01-13T22:32:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marijuana.com\/?p=46209"},"modified":"2016-01-13T22:32:45","modified_gmt":"2016-01-13T22:32:45","slug":"research-indicates-cannabinoids-can-reduce-frequency-of-migraine-headaches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/research-indicates-cannabinoids-can-reduce-frequency-of-migraine-headaches\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Indicates Cannabinoids Can Reduce Frequency of Migraine Headaches"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/research-indicates-cannabinoids-can-reduce-frequency-of-migraine-headaches\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><p>Seeking to quantify anecdotal evidence that <strong>marijuana&#8217;s cannabinoids<\/strong> can drastically reduce the frequency of <strong>migraine headaches<\/strong>, a new study was published this month in the journal Pharmacotherapy, and released online by PubMed.gov, which found that cannabinoids could <strong>radically diminish<\/strong> the occurrence of migraine headaches for those individuals afflicted with them.<\/p>\n<p>Though the study\u2019s abstract starts off with an interesting caveat, \u201cNo clinical trials are currently available that demonstrate the effects of marijuana on patients with migraine headache; however, the potential effects of cannabinoids on serotonin in the central nervous system indicate that marijuana may be a therapeutic alternative,\u201d it\u00a0seeks to investigate this valid question.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are cannabinoids helpful in reducing the monthly frequency of migraine headaches?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Shocking few, the answer was yes. <strong>Cannabinoids do mitigate migraine headaches<\/strong> \u2013 <em>at least for some<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>After closely studying more than 120 adult migraine sufferers with medical marijuana cards in Colorado, it was discovered that, \u201c<strong>Migraine headache frequency decreased from 10.4 to 4.6 headaches per month with the use of medical marijuana<\/strong>. Most patients used more than one form of marijuana and used it daily for prevention of migraine headache.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Disproving the doubters, the study pointed out <a href=\"https:\/\/weedmaps.com\/medical-marijuana-testing\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>cannabinoids potential benefits<\/strong><\/a> for those suffering from migraine headaches like this: \u201c<strong>Positive effects were reported in 48 patients<\/strong> (39.7%), with the most common effects reported being <strong>prevention of migraine headache<\/strong> with decreased frequency of migraine headache (24 patients [19.8%]) and aborted migraine headache (14 patients [11.6%]). Inhaled forms of marijuana were commonly used for acute migraine treatment and were reported to abort migraine headache.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_46216\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/weedmaps.com\/medical-marijuana-testing\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-46216\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marijuana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Screen-Shot-2016-01-13-at-6.23.41-AM.png?a8203f\" alt=\"Learn More About Cannabinoids \" width=\"700\" height=\"699\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Learn More About Cannabinoids<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The study&#8217;s conclusion points out the obvious, \u201c<strong>The frequency of migraine headaches was decreased with medical marijuana use<\/strong>.
