Allen Peake (R-Macon), a longtime advocate of medical marijuana in the Peach State, said he\u2019s willing to break the law to help get medical marijuana to metro Atlanta families.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.blog.ajc.com\/2016\/01\/20\/the-next-stage-of-medical-marijuana-debate-civil-disobedience\/\" target=\"_blank\">online sources<\/a>, Rep. Peake made it clear to all who care,\u00a0he\u2019s been obtaining medicinal cannabis from states with applicable legislation and transporting it back to Georgia, benefiting his constituents in need.<\/p>\n<p>The Macon Republican explained:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cListen, I made a commitment to these families when I got involved, that I was willing to do whatever it took to make sure they had access to a product from a reputable manufacturer. I\u2019ve made good on that promise. If it involved civil disobedience, it\u2019s been absolutely worth it.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Peake has long been considered one of the primary\u00a0founders of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marijuana.com\/blog\/news\/2015\/04\/georgia-legalized-medical-marijuana-oils-yesterday\/\" target=\"_blank\"> George&#8217;s medical marijuana movement<\/a>,\u00a0battling his fellow Republicans to secure passage of an initiative that permitted the possession of cannabis oil for qualified patients in Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>Not satisfied with his personal efforts on the issue, he\u2019s now facilitating Atlanta&#8217;s sick and suffering in getting their medicine, regardless of the risks.<\/p>\n<p>Ripping a page from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marijuana.com\/blog\/news\/2016\/01\/would-mlk-have-supported-marijuana-legalization\/#%20Would%20MLK%20Have%20Supported%20Marijuana%20Legalization?\">Martin Luther King Jr.&#8217;s playbook<\/a>, the Georgia representative noted there was obviously a certain level of concern, being a state lawmaker who is breaking the law.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/news\/local\/state-lawmaker-admits-breaking-law-medical-marijua\/np9GY\/\" target=\"_blank\">explaining his point of view<\/a>, Peake noted:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201c<strong><em>Maybe at some point there is a need for civil disobedience. It comes down to, \u2018What would I do if it were my child<\/em><\/strong>?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Further demonstrating his commitment to obtaining medical marijuana for his constituents in need, Peake authored a new piece of legislation this year that would permit the cultivation of medical marijuana in Georgia within tight parameters.
