As a physician specializing in internal medicine and psychiatry, Sisley, explained to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.standard.net\/Government\/2016\/01\/29\/Dr-Sue-Sisley-stumps-for-medical-marijuana-at-Utah-s-Capitol.html#Dr.%20Sue%20Sisley%20stumps%20for%20medical%20marijuana%20at%20Utah's%20Capitol%20\">the Standard Examiner <\/a>\u2013<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u00a0<em><strong>\u201cI\u2019m here to bring some awareness about the immense amount of scientific literature that already exists to support cannabis as medicine.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Seemingly fearful of science, Utah&#8217;s ongoing debate over the idea of legalizing medical marijuana has been met with a chorus of strong opposition in Salt Lake City. As politicians instead prefer their residents battle rare illnesses with addictive opioids rather than natural herbs.<\/p>\n<p>When giving this month\u2019s news conference at the state capital, Utah\u2019s Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/fox13now.com\/2016\/01\/21\/medical-marijuana-gov-herbert-doesnt-want-dr-feelgood-to-hand-out-doobies\/#Utah%20Governor\u2019s%20\u2018Que%20Pasa?%20Here\u2019s%20your%20doobie\u2019%20comment%20on%20marijuana%20raises\u00a0eyebrows\">expressed his fear<\/a> over legalizing medical marijuana in the Mormon stronghold of Utah:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;I\u2019m not interested in having Dr. Feelgood out there say, \u2018Yeah, yeah, que pasa, you know, here\u2019s your doobie for the day and you\u2019ll feel better.\u2019 That\u2019s probably not where I want to go.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marijuana.com\/blog\/news\/2015\/12\/new-poll-shows-elevated-support-for-medical-marijuana-among-utahs-elderly\/\" target=\"_blank\">support for medical marijuana grows among Utah&#8217;s elderly<\/a>, a couple of important pieces of medical marijuana legislation are up for discussion. Up first <a href=\"http:\/\/le.utah.gov\/~2016\/bills\/static\/SB0073.html#MEDICAL%20CANNABIS%20ACT%20%202016%20GENERAL%20SESSION%20%20STATE%20OF%20UTAH%20\">SB73<\/a>, originally backed by a Republican out of Sarasota Springs, Sen. Mark Madsen\u2019s legislation would allow \u201cwhole-plant access\u201d and would establish a system of state sanctioned dispensaries.
