It\u00a0estimates that the medical cannabis market in Michigan will exceed $700 million annually once fully established.<\/p>\n<p>The law goes into effect this December with a licensing system in place late next year.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crainsdetroit.com\/article\/20161016\/NEWS\/161019902\/michigan-could-gain-millions-in-tax-revenue-in-legal-marijuana-market\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> is based on the state\u2019s current number of patients, which is roughly 204,000. That number is expected to increase significantly in the coming months, however, now that dispensaries have been given the clear thumbs-up by the state\u2019s government.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the large amount of money the new law will garner, many patients are unhappy with a tax on medical cannabis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s a slap in the face\u201d, Becky Sloone, a 54 year old patient in Detroit who suffers from multiple sclerosis, tells The Weed Blog. \u201cThere\u2019s no other medicine in the state that\u2019s taxed. It\u2019s like we can only get relief if they get their dime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the other side, many are just happy to have clarity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the tax is unsavory, but it\u2019s worth having it written clearly into law that dispensaries are legal\u201d, says Mitchel Radcliffe, a 27 year old Grand Rapids resident.
