Yesterday I read a blog, by <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.sfgate.com\/smellthetruth\/2016\/10\/04\/justin-bieber-calls-out-prescription-drugmakers-opposing-marijuana\/?utm_content=buffer6272c&#038;utm_medium=social&#038;utm_source=facebook.com&#038;utm_campaign=buffer\">David Downs at SFGATE<\/a>, that detailed how Justin Bieber supports marijuana law reform, and maybe even broader drug law reform efforts. Hopefully, Justin decides to give generously to the drug law reform efforts across the country.<\/p>\n<p>David writes:<\/p>\n<p>Medical marijuana just got a major new ally in the bruising election battle: pop music icon Justin Bieber.<br \/>Just in time to help swing pitched election fights for medical marijuana in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/politics-government\/state-politics\/article105737506.html\">Florida<\/a>, and other states, Bieber called out prescription drug companies battling cannabis legalization Sunday, tweeting \u201cThis is important. \u2026 We all need to pay attention\u201d and linking to a video summary of the issue.<\/p>\n<p>In a video entitled \u201cBig Pharma is literally paying to block medical marijuana.\u201d the media group \u201cattn:\u201d recaps the hot news trend. Most recently, the makers of the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/08\/26\/health\/prince-minnesota-fentanyl-counterfeit-pills\/\"> drug that killed singer Prince<\/a> donated $500,000 to defeat adult use cannabis legalization in Arizona. The drug company, Insys, makers of Fentanyl, has said in financial statements that legal cannabis<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/local\/abcarian\/la-me-abcarian-cannabis-legalization-20160930-snap-story.html\"> threaten their plans to profit<\/a> from generic marijuana in pill form.<\/p>\n<p>In an SEC filing, she noted, Insys stated that \u201clegalization of marijuana or non-synthetic cannabinoids in the United States could significantly limit the commercial success of our Dronabinol products \u2026 and our ability to generate revenue, and our business prospects, would be materially adversely affected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Numerous studies confirm cannabis can treat <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.sfgate.com\/smellthetruth\/2016\/09\/16\/uc-berkeley-and-marijuana-tech-company-see-if-pot-fights-painkiller-abuse\/\">chronic pain<\/a>, putting it in potential competition with opioid drug makers as well as others. States with medical marijuana laws have about <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.sfgate.com\/smellthetruth\/2016\/04\/27\/opioid-overdose-rate-drops-in-medical-marijuana-states\/\">25 percent less<\/a> opioid overdoses and <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.sfgate.com\/smellthetruth\/2016\/07\/07\/medical-marijuana-programs-lead-to-fewer-drug-prescriptions-study-finds\/\">less prescription drug use<\/a> in general, new reports show.
