{"id":6996,"date":"2016-11-16T23:04:54","date_gmt":"2016-11-16T23:04:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/?p=2223257"},"modified":"2016-11-16T23:04:54","modified_gmt":"2016-11-16T23:04:54","slug":"jake-plummer-auctioning-off-broncos-game-day-experiences-to-raise-money-for-cannabinoid-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/jake-plummer-auctioning-off-broncos-game-day-experiences-to-raise-money-for-cannabinoid-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Jake Plummer auctioning off Broncos game-day experiences to raise money for cannabinoid research"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/jake-plummer-auctioning-off-broncos-game-day-experiences-to-raise-money-for-cannabinoid-research\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><p>Former Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer is auctioning off 16 game-day experiences to fund a series of studies on cannabinoid treatments for traumatic brain injuries and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cGame Day with the Snake\u201d packages will include time with Plummer and \u201csurprise VIP guests\u201d from the Broncos; a ticket and pregame field pass to the Broncos\u2019 regular-season finale against the <a href=\"http:\/\/stats.denverpost.com\/football\/nfl-teams.aspx?page=\/data\/nfl\/teams\/team26.html\">Oakland Raiders<\/a>\u00a0on Jan. 1; an invitation to a private tailgate party; transportation to and from the game; a \u201cswag bag\u201d with Broncos gear; and an autographed football from a Broncos player.<\/p>\n<p>For fans already planning to attend the game, Plummer is also offering a limited number of tailgate packages for purchase that will include access to the private tailgate party and time with Plummer and his Broncos guests, among other things.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"related right\"\/>\n<p>Plummer has been at the forefront of an ongoing push for cannabidiol (CBD) allowance and research for NFL players. In partnership with the Colorado-based Realm of Caring, he has raised awareness and funds through the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/theroc.us\/bright-lights\">When the Bright Lights Fade<\/a>\u201d campaign for two studies on CBD\u2019s potential benefits to both active and retired NFL players.<\/p>\n<p>The NFL Players Association recently formed a pain management committee to study, among other issues, the viability of cannabis as an alternative and potentially safer treatment for pain than opioids. The NFL currently prohibits players from consuming more than 35 nanograms of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC, the psychoactive compound in marijuana) per milliliter of urine. CBD from hemp extract has only trace levels of THC, but\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2016\/11\/10\/nflpa-develops-pain-management-committee\/\">any amount poses a risk to NFL players<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Although the NFLPA has begun to take notice of the potential benefits of CBD and cannabis, any change to the substance-abuse policy \u2014 be it to raise the THC threshold, eliminate testing for marijuana altogether, or allow for therapeutic use exemptions for cannabis \u2014 must be collectively bargained with the league.
