{"id":7066,"date":"2016-12-19T19:18:43","date_gmt":"2016-12-19T19:18:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.420magazine.com\/?p=5584"},"modified":"2016-12-19T19:18:43","modified_gmt":"2016-12-19T19:18:43","slug":"treating-dogs-with-hemp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/treating-dogs-with-hemp\/","title":{"rendered":"Treating Dogs With Hemp"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/treating-dogs-with-hemp\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><p>While medical marijuana moves to the mainstream, some pet owners are looking to hemp to treat their ill and anxious dogs.<\/p>\n<p>Julianna Carella, the CEO of Treatibles \u2014 an American company that sells the CBD-infused pet treats \u2014 said their sales are growing by about 5% to 10% each month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s over 100,000 customers by now and they\u2019re literally spread across the country and into other countries,\u201d she said. \u201cSo there\u2019s a lot of animals in the world using this product right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Treatibles sells hemp treats for pets that contain CBD (cannabidiol) derived from hemp, as opposed to cannabis. Carella explained CBD is an extract that doesn\u2019t produce a high.<\/p>\n<p>She estimated Canadian customers are probably under 10% of her sales.<\/p>\n<p>Sasha Soeterik, manager of Bellwoods dispensary, said their outlet has been selling Treatibles for about five months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCBD is not going to make you high,\u201d Soeterik said. \u201cIt\u2019s just for older dogs who have maybe joint issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They keep stocking it because \u201cpeople do like it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>The treats, which are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, are used to address concerns like separation anxiety, pain, arthritis, and inflammation, Carella added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you look at our packaging, we don\u2019t make any claims about what it\u2019s for, but we certainly recognize the main reasons people are purchasing the product for their pets,\u201d Carella said.<\/p>\n<p>A 2016 study by Colorado State University\u2019s college of veterinary medicine found almost 60% of people who bought products from a Seattle-based company \u2014 Canna-Pet \u2014 said they were using a hemp product for their dog.
