And while there are a lot of <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/getsmokin.nl\"><strong>coffeeshops in Holland<\/strong><\/a><strong>, the dutch don\u2019t really share this view. In this article we\u2019re exploring what the cannabis-culture is like in the Netherlands.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Coffeeshops<\/h2>\n<p>Coffeeshops, which sell coffee but also sell a wide array of THC-containing products, are pretty common in most cities. Apart from Amsterdam, most cities have an average of 5 to 10 coffeeshops. These are pretty much what you might expect from a coffeeshop; a bar, reggea, R&amp;B or hiphop music, and a menu with the different kinds of hasj, hazeand weed they sell. Most coffeeshops have a smoking area where customers can relax and smoke.<\/p>\n<p>While all kinds of people go to coffeeshops, the main public is either tourists or people between the ages of 18 and 30.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>SocialAcceptance<\/h2>\n<p>Most cannabis-enthousiast know that marijuana is a lot less damaging than other drugs and even alcohol. But most dutchies don\u2019t concern themselfs with this kind of information, and as a result smoking weed still isn\u2019t really accepted in the dutch society. You can\u2019t smoke weed in smoking area\u2019s and while it\u2019s perfectly normal to have a beer with coworkers, it generally isn\u2019t a great idea to smoke a joint on <em>casual Friday<\/em> at the office.<\/p>\n<p>An upside to this is that when you do figure out someone in your social circels smokes weed you instantly have a connection.\u00a0 I\u2019ve lived in the Netherlands myentire life, and I\u2019ve been surprised on numerous occasions by finding out that some one that I\u2019ve known for some time smokes weed as well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Coffeeshop Locations<\/h2>\n<p>Most <a href=\"https:\/\/getsmokin.nl\/alle-coffeeshops\/\">coffeeshops <\/a>aren\u2019t in the center of town, next to the big stores. In Amsterdam you can find coffeeshops pretty much anywhere, but this isn\u2019t the standard. Coffeeshops legally can\u2019t advertise so you\u2019ll have to be lucky to find one in you\u2019re in an unfamiliar city.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/amsterdam.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7086\" src=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/amsterdam-300x221.png\" alt=\"amsterdam\" width=\"570\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/amsterdam-300x221.png 300w, https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/amsterdam-768x566.png 768w, https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/amsterdam.png 833w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Marijuana and the Law<\/h2>\n<p>The law on marijuana is pretty twisted in the Netherlands. It\u2019s legal to sell and buy weed in coffeeshops, but no more than 5 grams at a time. But if you happen to get arrested with marijuana on you, the police will confiscate it.<\/p>\n<p>Coffeeshop can\u2019t legally buy weed (since it\u2019sillegal to grow) but they do declare the costs of buying weed on their taxes. These laws are so crazy because weed isn\u2019t technically <em>legal<\/em>; it\u2019s tolerated.<\/p>\n<p>It is tolerated to smoke weed in public, but police legally can take your weed away if they see you smoking marijuana (but this rarely happens if you\u2019re not causing any trouble).<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>Many people don\u2019t really get the marijuana-policies in the Netherlands \u2013 mainly because of the twisted image they get from movies or stories. But while I\u2019m really happy to be able to buy weed in a store legally, the system could be a lot better and the Netherlands still have a long way to go before marijuana will overtake alcohol.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Almost every one associates The Netherlands, and Amsterdam in particular, with coffeeshops and marijuana.
