It will begin meeting Jan. 18.<\/p>\n<p>Among its tasks is to help city officials sketch out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2016\/12\/04\/denver-businesses-social-marijuana\/\">how the city\u2019s first-of-its-kind social marijuana use permit program\u00a0will work<\/a>. The committee also will advise officials on the creation of new regulations for the permits.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"related right\" \/>\n<p>Initiative 300, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2016\/11\/14\/denver-social-marijuana-use-measure-wide-lead-updated-results\/\">approved by 53.6 percent of Denver voters<\/a> on Nov. 8, allows businesses to seek permits allowing them to create consumption areas for customers older than 21 who bring their own pot or cannabis products. Businesses with marijuana or liquor licenses will be ineligible because of state laws and regulations, but other kinds of businesses could apply \u2014 as long as they obtain\u00a0support from a local neighborhood or business organization. They would have to adhere to the indoor smoking ban but allow use outdoors\u00a0if they meet certain conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Denver must make applications for the new consumption area permits available by Jan. 21 under the initiative, but officials <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2016\/12\/05\/denver-officials-detail-next-steps-for-implementing-social-marijuana-measure\/\">have said\u00a0they likely won\u2019t begin accepting those applications<\/a> until this summer.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2241048\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter size-article_inline\"><img class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/social-marijuana-use-committee-includes-supporters-opponents-and-neighborhood-advocates-1\" alt=\"Owner Jim Norris works behind the coffee counter at Mutiny Information Cafe on December 2, 2016, in Denver, Colorado. The other city officials on the panel are City Council members Kendra Black and Mary Beth Susman, Deputy Chief David Qui\u00f1ones from Denver police and Marley Bordovsky from the code enforcement section of the City Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Emmett Reistroffer, a policy consultant at Denver Relief Consulting who helped lead the Yes on 300 campaign, will be joined by Rachel O\u2019Bryan, who managed the anti-Initiative 300 group Protect Denver\u2019s Atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>Others of note include University of Denver law professor Sam\u00a0Kamin, an expert on legal marijuana regulation who called Initiative 300 innovative <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2016\/12\/04\/denver-businesses-social-marijuana\/\">in a recent Denver Post story<\/a>, and Margie Valdez from Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation. She has been critical of Initiative 300 because it allows businesses to seek support from business improvement districts in addition to city-registered neighborhood associations.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the other members\u00a0of the advisory committee:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Community representatives Jude Del Hierro and Aubrey Lavizzo<\/li>\n<li>Business representative Dan Landes, owner of City, O\u2019 City restaurant<\/li>\n<li>Event planning representative Kobi Waldfogel from Lighthouse Cannabis Project<\/li>\n<li>Kristi Kelly, interim executive director of the Marijuana Industry Group<\/li>\n<li>Fran Lanzer, state executive director of Mothers Against Drunk Driving<\/li>\n<li>Amber Leytem, Healthy Schools Program manager for Denver Public Schools<\/li>\n<li>Karin McGowan, deputy director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment<\/li>\n<li>Maureen McNamara, founder of Cannabis Trainers<\/li>\n<li>Sonia Riggs, president and CEO of \u00a0the Colorado Restaurant Association<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Besides the Jan. 18 kick-off gathering, the advisory committee also has meetings set for Feb. 8 and Feb. 22.
