{"id":7211,"date":"2017-02-07T00:02:47","date_gmt":"2017-02-07T00:02:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/?p=2404698"},"modified":"2017-02-07T00:02:47","modified_gmt":"2017-02-07T00:02:47","slug":"dea-pulls-certificates-for-two-colorado-doctors-in-medical-marijuana-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/dea-pulls-certificates-for-two-colorado-doctors-in-medical-marijuana-controversy\/","title":{"rendered":"DEA pulls certificates for two Colorado doctors in medical marijuana controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/dea-pulls-certificates-for-two-colorado-doctors-in-medical-marijuana-controversy\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><p>The federal Drug Enforcement Administration has pulled the medicine-prescribing certificates of two Colorado doctors, after those physicians <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2016\/07\/19\/four-colorado-doctors-suspended-over-medical-marijuana-recommendations\/\">had their state licenses suspended<\/a> in Colorado over medical marijuana recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>The doctors \u2014 Gentry Dunlop and Janet Dean \u2014 were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colorado.gov\/pacific\/take5dora\/news\/dora-summarily-suspends-physician-janet-dean\">two<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colorado.gov\/pacific\/dora\/DORA-summarily-suspends-four-physicians-medical-marijuana\">five<\/a> Colorado physicians whose licenses the state Medical Board suspended last summer, alleging that the doctors wrote improperly large numbers of medical marijuana recommendations authorizing high plant counts.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the DEA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2017\/02\/03\/2017-02321\/janet-carol-dean-md-decision-and-order\">published a notice<\/a> in the Federal Register that it had revoked Dean\u2019s certificate of registration, which allows her to prescribe controlled substances. The move was not unexpected, and the DEA\u2019s notice said the revocation was a consequence of the state license suspension, which blocked the doctor from practicing medicine or prescribing medication in Colorado, and not the result of new information.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"related right\" \/>\n<p>Late last month, the DEA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2017\/01\/25\/2017-01690\/gentry-reeves-dunlop-md-decision-and-order\">published a similar notice<\/a> for Dunlop. Searches of the Federal Register for notices relating to the other suspended doctors turned up nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Four of the suspended doctors \u2014 everyone but Dean \u2014 filed suit over the suspensions last year. After winning <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2016\/07\/22\/medical-marijuana-doctors-sue-state-board\/\">a brief reprieve<\/a>, a judge in Denver <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2016\/08\/17\/suspensions-re-instated-colorado-doctors-medical-marijuana-high-plant-counts\/\">allowed the suspensions to continue<\/a> while the doctors\u2019 administrative appeals progressed. The doctors appealed the judge\u2019s order; meanwhile, their cases at the Medical Board are also still pending. Lee Rasizer, a spokesman for the state agency that houses the Medical Board, said he could not comment on the cases.<\/p>\n<p>The doctors were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dora.state.co.us\/pls\/real\/DDMS_Public.Display_Document?p_section=DPO&amp;p_doc_id=441155&amp;p_source=ROD&amp;p_doc_key=2952665D7A0E6787E3BA6CBACDDA7513\">each<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dora.state.co.us\/pls\/real\/DDMS_Public.Display_Document?p_section=DPO&amp;p_doc_id=433895&amp;p_source=ROD&amp;p_doc_key=FCD40C2DC775C7F314C313F75E286592\">accused<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dora.state.co.us\/pls\/real\/DDMS_Public.Display_Document?p_section=DPO&amp;p_doc_id=433892&amp;p_source=ROD&amp;p_doc_key=62EB081D9BF90AC8EA0AADABB6C32262\">of<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dora.state.co.us\/pls\/real\/DDMS_Public.Display_Document?p_section=DPO&amp;p_doc_id=433896&amp;p_source=ROD&amp;p_doc_key=81C09FD0D887EB550507D3AC6C916E41\">recommending<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dora.state.co.us\/pls\/real\/DDMS_Public.Display_Document?p_section=DPO&amp;p_doc_id=433893&amp;p_source=ROD&amp;p_doc_key=B490E7ED081D221C348FE69E95965466\">that<\/a> hundreds of patients be allowed to grow or possess more than the standard six marijuana plants per patient.
