But the council <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2017\/03\/13\/denver-council-marijuana-shops-midnight-closing-time-pushback\/\">also has heard push-back in recent weeks<\/a> from some dispensary neighbors and others concerned about the change.<\/p>\n<p>Denver <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2017\/03\/09\/midnight-closing-time-denver-marijuana-shops-city-council\/\">allows its 216 medical and recreational storefronts to operate<\/a> from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Marijuana Industry Group has sought more parity with Glendale and Edgewater, which allow sales until midnight \u2014 the latest allowed by Colorado law \u2014 and Aurora, which cuts off sales at 10 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMidnight is a non-starter for me, but 10 o\u2019clock is a reasonable compromise for the consumer,\u201d said Councilman Paul Kashmann, who represents southeast Denver. \u201cThese are not thugs and criminals that are doing this. These are going to be everyday folks looking to get their shopping done.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"related right\" \/>\n<p>The council\u2019s marijuana special-issue committee, which includes all members, voted 11-2 to advance the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Voting no\u00a0were Debbie Ortega and Chris Herndon. Herndon said\u00a0he wasn\u2019t comfortable with the proposal yet and planned to float a floor amendment to also change\u00a0the allowed opening time, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>The measure likely will be introduced in the council April 17, with a final vote April 24.
