The committee, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecannabist.co\/2017\/03\/01\/astm-international-cannabis-committee-guide-marijuana-industry\/74576\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported on by The Cannabist in March<\/a>, is scheduled to hold its first meeting on June 11.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis committee will help meet a need for safety and standardization in this fast-growing industry,\u201d Dr. Ralph Paroli, D37 chairman and director of R&amp;D in measurement science and standards at the National Research Council of Canada, said in a statement. \u201cWith decades of experience working with industries such as agriculture, packaging, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals, ASTM International and its members are uniquely qualified to develop standards for the cannabis industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new cannabis committee plans to develop standards in the following technical areas:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Indoor and outdoor horticulture and agriculture<br \/>\u2022\u00a0Quality management systems<br \/>\u2022\u00a0Laboratory<br \/>\u2022\u00a0Processing and handling<br \/>\u2022\u00a0Security and transportation<br \/>\u2022\u00a0Personnel training, assessment and credentialing<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-meta-author\">\n<div class=\"authorimage\"><a class=\"url fn n\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thecannabist.co\/author\/awallace\/\" rel=\"author\"><img src=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/creating-standards-for-cannabis-industry-gets-astm-international-board-approval.jpg\" class=\"authormug\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p class=\"author-desc\">Alicia Wallace joined The Cannabist in July 2016, covering national marijuana policy and business.
