{"id":7505,"date":"2017-06-24T06:50:25","date_gmt":"2017-06-24T06:50:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com?p=2694985&amp;preview_id=2694985"},"modified":"2017-06-24T06:50:25","modified_gmt":"2017-06-24T06:50:25","slug":"nevada-regulators-have-cunning-plan-to-keep-july-1-recreational-marijuana-sales-on-track","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/nevada-regulators-have-cunning-plan-to-keep-july-1-recreational-marijuana-sales-on-track\/","title":{"rendered":"Nevada regulators have cunning plan to keep July 1 recreational marijuana sales on track"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/nevada-regulators-have-cunning-plan-to-keep-july-1-recreational-marijuana-sales-on-track\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"large-10 large-centered small-12 columns\">\n<div class=\"entry-meta-date\">Published: Jun 23, 2017, 12:03 pm \u2022 Updated: Jun 23, 2017, 2:28 pm<span class=\"single-comments-link\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecannabist.co\/2017\/06\/23\/nevada-recreational-marijuana-sales-workaround-july-1\/82307\/#disqus_thread\" class=\"commentsNameLink\" \/><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"byline\">By <strong>Scott Sonner<\/strong>, <em> The Associated Press<\/em><\/p>\n<p>RENO, Nev. \u2014 Nevada regulators reaffirmed Friday that they intend to issue licenses necessary for retailers to begin selling pot for recreational use on July 1, despite a court order that threatens to scuttle the plan.<\/p>\n<p>The licensees could include as many as 25 medical dispensaries in the Las Vegas area and four others in Reno that already have medical retail licenses and local business licenses, \u201cas long as the inventory they sell as retail meets the packaging and labeling requirements in the emergency regulation we will have adopted Monday,\u201d state Department of Taxation spokeswoman Stephanie Klapstein said.<\/p>\n<p>The fate of the recreational program has been in limbo since a Carson City judge ruled Tuesday that the ballot measure approved by voters requires that alcohol wholesalers have exclusive rights to pot distribution licenses for 18 months.<\/p>\n<p>District Judge James Wilson <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecannabist.co\/2017\/06\/20\/nevada-recreational-marijuana-judge-ruling-liquor-distributors\/82039\/\">issued a temporary injunction<\/a> barring the state from issuing pot distribution licenses to anyone else, including existing medical marijuana dispensaries.<\/p>\n<p>However, Klapstein said Friday the \u201cdistributor issue will not hold up licensing of other marijuana establishments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe injunction has no effect on the other license types,\u201d she said. Distributor licenses allow pot to be moved between locations and are different than retail licenses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause the application review process isn\u2019t complete, we can\u2019t say with certainty which businesses will be licensed,\u201d Klapstein said. \u201cThat said, those that applied, meet the qualifications and whose applications we get processed before July 1, will be licensed by July 1.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Klapstein acknowledged those retail sales could be short-lived unless the state issues distribution licenses in the weeks ahead necessary to move additional products not already on-site from growers to retailers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce that inventory runs out, without distributors, they are not going to be able to restock,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Benson, a lawyer for the Independent Alcohol Distributors of Nevada, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The group filed the lawsuit considered by Wilson aimed at blocking any pot distribution licenses outside the liquor industry.<\/p>\n<p>Department of Taxation Director Deonne Contine issued an emergency statement Thursday with the endorsement of Gov.
