{"id":7539,"date":"2017-07-05T14:17:37","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T14:17:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.420magazine.com\/?p=6311"},"modified":"2017-07-05T14:17:37","modified_gmt":"2017-07-05T14:17:37","slug":"catalonia-legalizes-marijuana-consumption-cultivation-and-distribution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/catalonia-legalizes-marijuana-consumption-cultivation-and-distribution\/","title":{"rendered":"Catalonia Legalizes Marijuana Consumption, Cultivation And Distribution"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/catalonia-legalizes-marijuana-consumption-cultivation-and-distribution\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><p>The government of Catalonia has legalized marijuana, making the autonomous Spanish region the latest part of the world to loosen restrictions on use of the drug.<\/p>\n<p>The cultivation, consumption and distribution of cannabis will be permitted for members of designated clubs after the region&#8217;s parliament voted to regulate them.<\/p>\n<p>It follows a campaign which gathered 67,500 petition signatures, forcing a government debate.<\/p>\n<p>Cannabis clubs previously existed in a state of legal limbo in Catalonia after emerging in response to strict fines issued by the national government to users caught taking the drug in public.<\/p>\n<p>Some 118 of Catalonia&#8217;s 127 ministers voted in favour of regulating the clubs, with broad cross-party support for the move.<\/p>\n<p>Clubs must be self-sufficient non-profit associations that only distribute cannabis to members aged over 18. They will be limited to producing 150kg of the dried drug a year and subject to rules designed to stop drug tourism.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, officials in the Catalan capital Barcelona attempted to curb the boom in cannabis use over fears the city was growing to rival Amsterdam as a marijuana haven. Under the new legal framework, members will not be able to acquire cannabis for 15 days after joining a club.<\/p>\n<p>Alba Verges, chairwoman of the parliamentary health commission, told HuffPost Spain: &#8220;The law we will approve is very advanced and gives a very clear message.
