{"id":7705,"date":"2017-09-09T00:10:44","date_gmt":"2017-09-09T00:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com?p=2781168&amp;preview_id=2781168"},"modified":"2017-09-09T00:10:44","modified_gmt":"2017-09-09T00:10:44","slug":"congressional-medical-marijuana-protections-extended-by-debt-limit-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/congressional-medical-marijuana-protections-extended-by-debt-limit-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"Congressional medical marijuana protections extended by debt limit deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/congressional-medical-marijuana-protections-extended-by-debt-limit-deal\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><div class=\"media_block\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"large-10 large-centered small-12 columns\">\n<div class=\"entry-meta-date\">Published: Sep 8, 2017, 3:34 pm \u2022 Updated: Sep 9, 2017, 8:57 am<span class=\"single-comments-link\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"byline\">By <span class=\"author\"><a class=\"url fn n\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thecannabist.co\/author\/awallace\/\" rel=\"author\">Alicia Wallace<\/a><\/span><em>, The Cannabist Staff<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Existing federal protections for medical marijuana states are expected to continue through at least Dec. 8.<\/p>\n<p>The $15.3 billion disaster aid package, debt limit increase and government spending extension approved by Congress on Friday includes the existing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecannabist.co\/tag\/rohrabacher-blumenauer-medical-marijuana-amendment\/\">Rohrabacher-Blumenauer<\/a> provision, which prevents the Justice Department from using funds to interfere with the 46 states that have legalized some form of medical marijuana.<\/p>\n<p>The aid bill, which was sent to President Donald Trump, extends the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecannabist.co\/2017\/05\/01\/medical-marijuana-hemp-federal-spending-bill\/78700\/\">omnibus legislation passed in May<\/a> and will fund the government through Dec. 8.<\/p>\n<p>The short-term spending fix is also a short-term victory for Rohrabacher-Blumenauer sponsors, which were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecannabist.co\/2017\/09\/06\/house-rules-committee-rejects-marijuana-amendments-spending-bill-2\/87472\/\">dealt a blow by the House Rules Committee<\/a> earlier this week. The legislative committee nixed the amendment from House consideration for the fiscal year 2018 funding bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have at least three months of certainty now, but the fight isn\u2019t over,\u201d officials for Rep.
