{"id":7847,"date":"2017-11-09T01:21:16","date_gmt":"2017-11-09T01:21:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com?p=2850758&amp;preview_id=2850758"},"modified":"2017-11-09T01:21:16","modified_gmt":"2017-11-09T01:21:16","slug":"complete-colorado-election-results-for-2017-marijuana-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/complete-colorado-election-results-for-2017-marijuana-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"Complete Colorado election results for 2017 marijuana issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/complete-colorado-election-results-for-2017-marijuana-issues\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><div class=\"media_block\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"large-10 large-centered small-12 columns\">\n<div class=\"entry-meta-date\">Published: Nov 8, 2017, 5:11 pm \u2022 Updated: Nov 8, 2017, 7:11 pm<span class=\"single-comments-link\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"byline\">By <span class=\"author\"><a class=\"url fn n\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thecannabist.co\/author\/alabak\/\" rel=\"author\">Aleta Labak<\/a><\/span><em>, The Cannabist Staff<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A Colorado city known for its cantaloupes will soon be known for its recreational cannabis.<\/p>\n<p>Three cities in southern Colorado \u2014 Alamosa, Monte Vista and Rocky Ford, all located south of Pueblo \u2014 voted Tuesday on whether to allow sales of medical marijuana, recreational marijuana or both; they also had separate, corresponding tax measures for collecting revenue on prospective cannabis sales. <\/p>\n<p>While the proposed pot-tax measures in the three cities all passed easily, only one approved retail sales: Rocky Ford, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2016\/08\/21\/farmers-food-buffs-promote-rocky-ford-cantaloupes-at-cook-off\/\">famous regionally for its melons<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in Colorado, voters had a handful of local marijuana tax measures to consider on their ballots, including the town of Foxfield, where marijuana sales are currently banned. In 13 out of 14 cities, the tax measures passed \u2014 Foxfield\u2019s did not.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Fort Collins voters authorized the City Council to amend the City Code with regard to medical marijuana ordinances without requiring voter approval of each amendment, according to the Colorado Municipal League, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.<\/p>\n<p>State marijuana laws <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecannabist.co\/2016\/05\/27\/colorado-marijuana-sales-tax\/55118\/\">allow municipalities<\/a> to \u201copt in\u201d or ban marijuana sales and set local taxes. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cml.org\/issues.aspx?taxid=11074\">CML data on local ordinances shows<\/a> that as of April 2017 about 90 percent of municipalities had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cml.org\/rmj-action-visual\/\">taken action to address retail marijuana sales<\/a>; 69 municipalities had regulations in place to allow sales and 168 had bans or moratoriums.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a look at the unofficial results in the cities that considered allowing sales and\/or instituting local marijuana taxes. Information on the proposed tax rates is provided by Kevin Bommer, CML deputy director.
