Mitch McConnell"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/hemp-farming-act-of-2018-introduced-by-sen-mitch-mcconnell\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"large-10 large-centered small-12 columns\">\n<p>Hemp could be made whole again \u2014 and explicitly legal \u2014 under a new bill introduced Thursday by the leader of the U.S. Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell\u2019s Hemp Farming Act of 2018 aims to establish hemp as an agricultural commodity, protect state regimes, add crop insurance, and bolster research. And right off the bat, the bill quashes questions about whether those hemp-derived CBD-rich extracts are indeed legal:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe term \u2018hemp\u2019 means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill, if successful, would end the debate that has picked apart the hemp plant in piecemeal and end interpretations that hemp-derived extracts rich in cannabinol and other cannabinoids are illicit substances, hemp advocates say.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-related right\">\n<h3>Related Articles<\/h3>\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cEven though we believe that the Farm Bill language that said, \u2018all parts of the plant\u2019 (established legality for extracts), it could not be more clear that hemp, the plant, hemp extracts, hemp derivatives, hemp-derived CBD \u2026 they\u2019ll all be made legal,\u201d said Jonathan Miller, legal counsel for the U.S. Hemp Roundtable, an organization lobbying for more robust federal hemp laws.<\/p>\n<p>The Hemp Farming Act of 2018 was co-introduced by Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy legalizing hemp and empowering states to conduct their own oversight plans, we can give the hemp industry the tools necessary to create jobs and new opportunities for farmers and manufacturers around the country,\u201d McConnell, R-Ky., said in a statement.<\/p>\n<h4>Watch: Sen.
