Marijuana delivery in Colorado passes first hurdle"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/ganja-on-the-go-marijuana-delivery-in-colorado-passes-first-hurdle\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><div class=\"media_block\"><\/div>\n<div><img src=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/ganja-on-the-go-marijuana-delivery-in-colorado-passes-first-hurdle.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Marijuana delivery came a step closer to reality Tuesday when a Colorado House committee signed off on amended legislation that has its best chance in years of making it to the finish line.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/leg.colorado.gov\/bills\/HB19-1234\">House Bill 1234<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2019\/03\/31\/colorados-marijuana-bills\/\">would initially allow dispensaries<\/a> to dispatch delivery drivers to customers with medical marijuana cards, starting Jan. 1. Recreational shops could offer delivery beginning in 2021, as could third-party delivery services, in the same vein as Postmates and other food-delivery services \u2014 though with some pretty hefty security precautions.<\/p>\n<p>The House Business Affairs &amp; Labor Committee passed the bill 6-3 after adopting <a href=\"https:\/\/s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/leg.colorado.gov\/2019A\/amendments\/HB1234_L.016.pdf\">a revised version<\/a> presented by Rep. Jonathan Singer, a Longmont Democrat. He said the new version incorporated input from both supporters and opponents.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the latter, including the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police, remain opposed, but the bill now would direct a $1 delivery surcharge to local law enforcement. Another change allows delivery to start only in cities or counties that opt in, a restriction that\u2019s likely to limit availability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to see if there are issues related to medical (in the first year) \u2014 and medical is the most important component of this,\u201d Singer said, noting that Gov. Jared Polis\u2019 office was among those requesting a phased-in approach. \u201c\u2026 People struggling with seizures, struggling with cancer, can\u2019t get out the door. This gets it delivered.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"related right\" \/>\n<p>Last year, a committee in the Republican-majority Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2018\/12\/06\/colorado-marijuana-delivery-laws\/\">killed compromise legislation<\/a> that would have allowed for a two-year marijuana delivery pilot program.<\/p>\n<p>But with Democrats in control of both legislative chambers this session, the new bipartisan bill has a better chance of becoming law.
