The increase this year, which brought Boulder County’s total to $8.7 million, kept it slightly ahead of Adams County, in which sales of cannabis products totaled just more than $8.4 million in May, but far behind Denver County, where sales were nearly $36.8 million in May, and Arapahoe County, where sales totaled nearly $11.7 million.

The report does not break down the county totals by city.

Statewide retail marijuana sales also saw an uptick, increasing by nearly 18% compared to last May — from a little more than $96.64 million last year to more than $113.66 million this year. .

In June, Colorado passed the $1 billion mark in marijuana revenue since adult-use marijuana sales began in 2014, according to a Colorado Department of Revenue. Marijuana revenue supports statewide efforts such as licensing and regulation of legalmarijuana businesses, youth prevention efforts, behavioral health treatment, protecting public health and safety, and coordination across state agencies, the department stated in a news release last month.

“Today’s report continues to show that Colorado’s cannabis industry is thriving, but we can’t rest on our laurels. We can and we must do better in the face of increased national competition. We want Colorado to be the best state for investment, innovation and development for this growing economic sector,” Gov. Jared Polis stated in the June 12 release. “This industry is helping grow our economy by creating jobs and generating valuable revenue that is going towards preventing youth consumption, protecting public health and safety and investing in public school construction.”

Marijuana tax, license and fee revenue reached just more than $1.02 billion and marijuana sales exceeded $6.56 billion, according to the June 12 release. At the time, the state had 2,917 licensed marijuana businesses and 41,076 individuals licensed to work in the industry, according to the release.

Retail marijuana sales in Boulder County jumped $1.4 million in May compared to last year, according to the Colorado Department of Revenue, putting it slightly ahead of Adams County, but far behind Denver and Arapahoe counties in terms of sales totals.

[2163,7552,5062,52,1867,854,6813,7938,77,6858,9,5019,1,3,61,1736
4731,7557,5063,2632,4435,3427,6818,7939,2655,6860,5022
