A third Republican, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/tag\/lauren-boebert\/\">Rep. Lauren Boebert<\/a>, did not vote.<\/p>\n<p>It now moves to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/tag\/u-s-senate\/\">U.S. Senate,<\/a> which is split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans, and some in the latter party worry passing it will increase marijuana use and foreign investments.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2021\/03\/19\/marijuana-congress-banking-perlmutter-congress\/\">The legislation<\/a>, which has been introduced every Congress since 2013 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/tag\/ed-perlmutter\/\">Rep. Ed Perlmutter<\/a>, would allow credit unions and banks to work with cannabis companies. He later added, \u201cThe fact is, you can\u2019t put the genie back in the bottle. (Marijuana) prohibition is over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill has cleared the House on several occasions but has never been voted on in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado Republican Rep. Ken Buck said: \u201cI fully agree that we must ensure legal businesses are not operating on a cash-only basis. However, I cannot vote for the SAFE Banking Act in its current form. This bill opens up our banking system to abuse from drug cartels and illegal growers and distributors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Buck had planned to file an amendment requiring the manufacture, production, possession, distribution, dispensation, administration and delivery of marijuana was done within the U.S., but the bill was not amended before the vote.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"related right\" \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"media_block\"><\/div>\n<p>The SAFE Banking Act has been introduced every Congress since 2013 by Rep.
