While nine were approved, just seven began adult use sales today. Connecticut also launched its \u201cClean Slate &amp; Cannabis Erasure\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/cleanslate?language=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>, as the state\u2019s Clean Slate bill went into effect on January 1, effectively erasing thousands of cannabis convictions.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36134\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36134\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cannabisindustryjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/IMG_6401.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-36134\" src=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/connecticut-launches-adult-use-sales.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36134\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Governor Lamont at a press conference on January 9, discussing the Clean Slate bill.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Connecticut\u2019s legislature <a href=\"https:\/\/cannabisindustryjournal.com\/news_article\/connecticut-set-to-legalize-cannabis\/\">voted to legalize<\/a> cannabis back in 2021. On June 17, 2021, Governor Ned Lamont signed the bill into law, marking the beginning of the state\u2019s journey of building a legal adult use cannabis market that culminates today.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech he delivered on January 9, 2023, Governor Lamont told reporters that the bill eliminating past convictions makes a big difference. \u201cUnder a new state law that went into effect on January 1, our administration has marked 43,754 low-level cannabis convictions as erased,\u201d the Governor tweeted, alongside a video of his speech. \u201cAn old conviction for possession should not hold someone back from pursuing their career, housing, professional, and education aspirations.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_36133\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36133\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cannabisindustryjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/IMG_6402.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-36133\" src=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/connecticut-launches-adult-use-sales-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"139\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-36133\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lt. Bysiewicz speaks to an audience Tuesday morning outside of the ZenLeaf Meriden dispensary.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the ZenLeaf Meriden dispensary, one of the nine retailers authorized to commence sales, politicians, stakeholders, the press and customers met outside of the store for a news conference at 9 a.m., shortly before the store opened for business an hour later. Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz delivered a speech at the news conference where she celebrated the occasion, shared details on the launch and emphasized the importance of \u201cnot losing sight of a very robust medical program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfsb.com\/2023\/01\/10\/connecticut-marijuana-dispensaries-open-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In a video shared by WFSB,<\/a> Lt. Gov. Bysiewicz said they are requiring all businesses to have a \u201cmedical preservation plan\u201d to ensure safe, adequate and fair access for patients continues as the adult use market opens up.
