{"id":9634,"date":"2023-04-19T20:27:34","date_gmt":"2023-04-19T20:27:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cannabisindustryjournal.com\/?post_type=news_article&amp;p=36401"},"modified":"2023-04-19T20:27:34","modified_gmt":"2023-04-19T20:27:34","slug":"new-jersey-gives-curaleaf-a-second-chance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/new-jersey-gives-curaleaf-a-second-chance\/","title":{"rendered":"New Jersey Gives Curaleaf A Second\u00a0Chance"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wp_fb_like_button\" style=\"margin:5px 0 5px 5px;float:right;height:100px;\"><script src=\"http:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/all.js#xfbml=1\"><\/script><fb:like href=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/new-jersey-gives-curaleaf-a-second-chance\/\" send=\"true\" layout=\"standard\" width=\"450\" show_faces=\"false\" font=\"arial\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\"><\/fb:like><\/div><p>On April 13, 2023, The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) announced that Curaleaf would not be able to renew their cultivation and retail licenses for adult use cannabis for violating labor rules under the state\u2019s cannabis regulations. <a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/curaleaf-new-jersey-cannabis-regulatory-commission-emergency-meeting-vote-matt-darin\/13145531\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In a surprise reversal<\/a>, the NJ CRC voted to approve the license renewals with some caveats during an emergency meeting on April 17.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cannabisindustryjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/NJCRC.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-35200\" src=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/new-jersey-gives-curaleaf-a-second-chance.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"145\" \/><\/a>According to Commissioner Krista Nash with the NJ CRC, Curaleaf did not abide by the law when it failed to recognize workers\u2019 vote to unionize in a timely manner. She says evidence includes testimony from workers and the union. \u201cIn my opinion, Curaleaf, in several of its locations, have not complied with the mandatory labor provisions set forth in the law,\u201d says Nash. \u201cAnd that alone was reason to deny their application for renewal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ir.curaleaf.com\/2023-04-17-NJ-CRC-Board-Reverses-Itself-and-Fully-Approves-Curaleafs-Adult-Use-License-Renewals-After-Legal-Challenge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In a press release published by Curaleaf<\/a> following the reversal, the company say they will be complying with the demands set by the NJ CRC to provide documentation of its labor practices, confirm ongoing compliance and provide evidence of good faith efforts to negotiate collective bargaining agreements. \u201cToday\u2019s decision by the CRC Board to vacate their unprecedented action last week is an incredible victory for our 500 NJ team members and vindication for what we knew all along: Curaleaf is in good standing with the CRC and has fulfilled every requirement necessary for the renewal of our licenses,\u201d says Matt Darin, CEO of Curaleaf in the same statement.<a href=\"https:\/\/cannabisindustryjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/medium_Curaleaf_Logo_Blogs__a3c4376961.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13420 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cannitrol.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/new-jersey-gives-curaleaf-a-second-chance-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"94\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the second chance comes with a number of caveats, the decision reversal is definitely unprecedented.
