Majority Now Support Marijuana Legalization In Both United States & Canada

Marijuana legalization is at the forefront of debate not just in the United States of America, but in all other NAFTA countries as well.  Canada and Mexico seem to be in the cusp of legalizing marijuana, but what about the US?

“The polls suggest, and closer than I suspected, but both [Canada and the US] support marijuana legalization,” said Emerson College Professor Spencer Kimball on the Emerson College Polling Weekly Podcast.

The issue may come down to the federal level, which brings Donald Trump and his administration to the center of the stage.

Earlier in the summer, White House Attorney General Jeff Sessions came down hard on the potential of marijuana being legalized in any capacity in the United States.

However, as Kimball pointed out on the latest Emerson College Polling Weekly Podcast, a sizable portion of a key voting bloc for Trump may very well could hold opinions not in line with the Attorney General, as well as fellow Trump supporters and voters.

And suffice it to say, President Trump himself is going to need all the support he can get in 2018 and beyond.

“It explains why the Trump Administration is on the fence of what to do.  Currently Jeff Sessions is opposed to marijuana legalization but as we’ve seen, that can all change on a dime.

“The movement is towards the legalization of marijuana in the United States.  But politically it might not be there because we’re talking about older voters and the President’s base voters and those two would be antagonized towards the legalization.”

All the momentum seems to be on the side of some form of marijuana legalization, so what will the Trump Administration do?
