NYPD Captain Suspended For Hanging Out With Pot-Smoking Criminal
An NYPD captain caught hanging out with a pot-smoking convicted criminal has been suspended from duty, officials said Saturday.
Capt. Kareema Nevels was stripped of her gun and shield and ordered to desk duty in February.
State parks police in late December found her in a car with a man smoking marijuana on Long Island.
Cops did not disclose why Nevels was suspended. Nor would they say how long the suspension was for.
Nevels, who was the executive officer of the 63rd Precinct in Flatlands, Brooklyn, tested negative for ingesting marijuana when the NYPD launched an investigation earlier this year, Roy Richter, the president of the Captains Endowment Association, said at the time.
The NYPD Patrol Guide prohibits officers from associating with anyone “reasonably believed to be engaged in, likely to engage in, or to have engaged in criminal activities.”
