Police find illegal marijuana grows in Teller County and El Paso County
Raids conducted in Cripple Creek and El Paso counties have found two illegal marijuana grow operations.
Two men have been arrested in connection with an illegal marijuana grow operation near a high school in Cripple Creek, according to the Teller County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael Gravino Jr., 40, and Michael Gravino Sr., 64, were charged with offenses related to marijuana and special drug offender, a news release said. They are being held in the Teller County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
The Teller County Narcotics Team conducted an investigation into two residents who were allegedly growing marijuana and shipping it to locations out of state via the U.S. Postal Service, including to Texas and Florida.
On Aug. 1, officers conducted a raid of a house in the 100 Block of Pikes Peak Avenue in connection to the investigation, the news release said. The residence is within 500 feet of Cripple Creek High School.
Narcotics team members seized 43 plants, multiple pounds of processed marijuana, seven firearms, three vehicles and evidence of an illegal out-of-state distribution operation, the news release said.
The legal limit in Colorado for the number of marijuana plants that can be grown at home is 12 plants per residence.
The Teller County Narcotics Team will be working with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration to determine if additional charges are appropriate, the news release said.
On July 31, police in El Paso County arrested two men in connection with an illegal marijuana grow operation, according to a news release from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Abdiel Delgado, 30, and Elieser Curbelo, 44, were arrested and charged with offenses related to marijuana. They have been booked into El Paso County Jail, the release said.
Law enforcement conducted raids on two properties in the 2000 block of Deputy Point, and a “knock and talk” on a third property, the news release said. Approximately 300 marijuana plants, four firearms and nine emaciated and neglected dogs were seized from the three properties, the news release said. All the dogs were handed over to the Humane Society.
