Understanding that epileptic seizures in children don’t necessarily happen when it’s convenient. A newly introduced piece of legislation, Delaware’s Senate bill 181, would allow schools in the Small Wonder state to keep on hand and permit the administration of cannabis oil for those students in need.

If passed, Senate Bill 181 would permit authorized caregivers to possess and dispense cannabis oil to pupils who require the cannabinoid rich treatment for quieting their hard to manage epilepsy.

Joining Maine and New Jersey in showing compassion towards children, Delaware’s newly proposed piece of legislation was an afterthought of a bill passed last year, which allowed a minute subset of schoolchildren to enroll in Delaware’s medical marijuana program. Explicitly permitting kids with life altering epilepsy to receive treatment via the non-psychoactive cannabis oil.

According to Sen. Ernie Lopez, (R-Lewes) who spoke with the Delmarva Daily Times:

“If there is a parent chaperoning a field trip … that parent should be able to administer those oils to that (qualified) child”. Explaining, “I think right now, more than anything else, it’s hard for me to criticize anyone who’s trying to find the wellness of a child.”
