AZ Supporters of Marijuana Legalization Unveil Pro-Pot Billboard at Phoenix Open
Golf is an addictive sport, and one that’s embraced by the dark underbelly of those traveling in the Fast Lane. Long associated with the idle rich – think nobility – golf has recently undergone a rebranding by some heavy hitters who hope to utilize the game’s popularity in order to stress the need of legalizing marijuana in Arizona.
Frustrating, expensive, and a favorite game of moral hucksters, the game of golf takes prime real estate and dots it with multimillion dollar McMansions, then encourages those that can afford it, to smack a little ball with one of their 14 clubs around an 18 hole course … and whoever has the fewest hacks wins.
Ordinarily, a golf cart is rented for navigating the course, which generally tends to eliminate any possibility of getting exercise. While it restricts a golfer’s overall exercise level, it provides today’s recreational player an opportunity to run into the eye-catching girl driving a refreshment cart, puttering around the sea of green and pimping out alcohol and tobacco like it was candy.
Tired of the toxicity twins dominating one of America’s favorite sports, supporters of Arizona’s proposed ballot initiative to legalize marijuana are débuting a slightly risqué Phoenix Open billboard Monday to correspond with the start of Arizona’s most popular golf tournament, according to KTAR News:
“The sign reads: “If beer and golf make for the greatest party on grass … Why can’t adults enjoy a safer party on grass?”
Indeed…
“When they put out their slogan as the ‘Greatest party on grass,’ how can we as an organization — whose goal is to legalize adult-use cannabis — not have fun with this?” campaign chair J.P. Holyoak said.”
As golf’s younger demographic continues to grow, millennial golfers are resistant to blindly accepting what came before. They’re not interested in dressing like they are off to work or feeling like they are being policed as they play a round of golf. Oh yeah, they also want the freedom to fire up a fatty before teeing off. And while there’s little doubt golf has needed to pull the pitching wedge out of its rear end for quite some time, Arizona’s Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol is emphasizing that fact at this years Phoenix Open. Provided the November ballot initiative passes, marijuana would become legal for adults 21 years of age and older in Arizona.
