Conservative Republican Pushes for Nebraska Medical Marijuana

A politician from the Cornhusker state of Nebraska is turning to the public in the hopes of building support for LB643, a bill specifically aimed at legalizing smokeless medical marijuana throughout the Great Plains.

According to online reports, conservative republican and medical marijuana advocate, Sen. Tommy Garrett of Bellevue visited Dakota City and Norfolk on Wednesday, making a case for his common sense legislation.

Authored by Sen. Tommy Garrett, LB 643 would allow patients with epilepsy, Lou Gehrig’s disease (a.k.a. ALS), cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other debilitating illnesses to obtain and use specific types of medical marijuana products – provided it’s been recommended by a board-certified doctor. While the passage of LB643 would represent incredible progress for many, Nebraska’s medical marijuana would only be allowed as an oil, pill, or liquid vapor… but no flower!

While this was a highly contested piece of legislation during the 2015 session, ultimately lawmakers shot it down in flames. Detractors have claimed that while they understand people are needlessly suffering with debilitating diseases, they’re concerned that medical marijuana creates a slippery slope toward recreational use.
