New Poll Shows Elevated Support for Medical Marijuana Among Utah’s Elderly

As the majority of our God-fearing country slowly accepts the scientific fact that marijuana’s cannabinoids are medicine, a new poll conducted by UtahPolicy finds that six of ten Utahns favor legalizing medical marijuana when prescribed by a licensed doctor.

While the Beehive State approved limited access to medical marijuana for children with severe forms of epilepsy in 2014 – the newly conducted poll by Dan Jones & Associates for UtahPolicy finds that 61% are now in favor of legalizing medical marijuana.

Of the 624 quizzed Utahns, 35% responded positively to medical marijuana, while 26% “somewhat favor” it; leaving only 25% in definite opposition to it, and 11% “somewhat oppose” to it.

Utah’s Elderly Get It! When asked…

“Do you favor or oppose legalizing medical marijuana, prescribed by licensed doctors?”

The poll found greatest support among older residents, with the highest levels of support coming from those 65 or older (61%), those 55-64 (61%) and 45-54 (62%).   The poll found only 46% of those aged 18-24 support it, while 51% were opposed.

At the beginning of 2015, Utah Senator Mark Madsen (R-Eagle Mountain) authored legislation to legalize medical marijuana after visiting Colorado to try medical marijuana for his chronic back pains. That piece of legislation, SB 259, failed to pass by one measly vote. High on his “To Do List” for the 2016 legislative session, Sen. Madsen is expected to push forward in his fight for medical marijuana.
