Will The Real Girl Scout Cookies Please Stand Up

With thousands of cultivators germinating and crossbreeding seeds from coast-to-coast, supposedly containing the genetic makeup for Girl Scout Cookies, it occurred to me the other day . . . how do I know for certain that my dispensary’s version of Girl Scout Cookies (GSC) is the real McCoy?

Ask to see the test results…because terpenes don’t lie!

While most collectives focus on THC content and the strain’s specific genetic makeup, in the case of GSC, a Durban Cross, referred to as F1 Durb, x Florida OG Kush, they seemingly neglect to drill down on the synergistic interplay between the strain’s terpenoids and cannabinoids, which help determine the strain’s unique scent and high.

Case in point: The prominent terpene molecules found in the real Girl Scout Cookies are the foundation of her high, and determine how this specific strain will interact with an individual’s unique endocannabinoid system. Within real GSC, the primary terpenes are (?) Pinene, Myrcene, Limonene, Linalool, Fenchol, Borneol, Humulene, Caryophyllene, Caryophyllene-Oxide, Bisabolol, and Camphene.

While terpene deficient fakes have fallen by the wayside, GSC distinctive scent and flavor has dominated several past Cannabis Cups and concentrate competitions. Cultivating one of OG Kush’s prime competitors for your hard earned smoking dollar –those with a nose for historically turning to OG’s potent terpenes have instead pivoted towards Girl Scout Cookies.

The Result: Beware novice consumer; the real Girl Scout Cookies goes straight to the dome, creating a euphoric and relaxing smoke for putting an exclamation point at the end of a hectic workday.

Strain Profile: A mystery Durban Poison concoction crossed with Florida OG Kush, Girl Scout Cookies are simply awesome.  While this Bay Area strain is a little more expensive than your run of the mill top-shelf flower, it’s important to understand that you get what you pay for.

Appearance: Tight, frosty and ready to please, GSC is reminiscent of the always popular OG Kush, but with a distinct purple-ish hue throughout.

Consistency: Dense like a rock and stoney as can be, the Girl Scout Cookie’s exterior is a cross between velcro and honey. Sticky, compressed and reminiscent of its genetic downline, GCS is best prepared for smoking with a grinder.

Scent: At first whiff, the nose is greeted with a bittersweet chocolate roast, and then gives way to a more mint-ish and pine-like (almost mahogany) aroma. As a genetic mashup, consumers are greeted with a novel scent that combines the welcoming aroma of sweet fruit crossed with a stimulating soil-based fragrance.

Taste: Within some cuts of GSC – at least the OG dominant ones –the spearmint zest overpowers the popular chocolate flavor. While other cuts provide an exotic profile of minty sweetness and a slightly more complex terpene profile.

Effect: A true heavyweight with knockout capabilities.

Strain Background: Girl Scout Cookies originally gained its lofty notoriety in the backwoods of Northern California as a mixture of an unknown Durban Poison cross (F1 Durb) with a prime cut of Florida OG Kush.
