Music Blossoms at the 12th Annual Emerald Cup
The event that Rolling Stone called “The Academy Awards of the Cannabis Industry” returns to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds this December 12th & 13th. For tens of thousands of attendees, the Emerald Cup is the celebration of outdoor cultivation and everything that goes with it.
As nearly every cannabis enthusiasts will passionately agree, few things accompany marijuana better than music, especially live music. This year’s lineup features an eclectic mix of reggae, electronica, rock, world, folk, psychedelia, and hip-hop. Formed in the laid-back beach side college community of Isla Vista, Rebelution gained a great deal of momentum consistently dazzling local audiences as they fine-tuned their unique roots sound. Their second full-length album, Bright Side of Life, dominated the iTunes charts and reached the top spot in reggae and the third spot in all genres of music.
Sunday’s music offerings will close with Beats Antique, an experimental group of exceptionally talented musicians that blend world fusion and electronic music to craft an incredibly distinct sound. Releasing at least one album a year since 2007, this group of veteran performers have become known for their diverse musical offerings and their wild theatrical performances. The Emerald Triangle Celebrates Outdoor Cultivation: The Emerald Cup
Northern California’s “Emerald Triangle,” which includes the counties of Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity, has long been established as the epicenter of the global cannabis movement. While the area is widely appreciated as the world’s largest producer of marijuana, it is particularly respected for its incredible outdoor cultivation. The Emerald Cup is the celebration of outdoor cultivation and everything that goes with it. What started as a quiet and friendly competition between neighbors and friends has grown into California’s largest and most storied cannabis event.
Each December, California’s most prolific cannabis growers and producers congregate in Northern California to show off their prized flowers, solventless concentrates, edibles, tinctures and CBD variants. The Emerald Cup allows cannabis enthusiasts from across the globe the chance to participate in what can best be described as a complete cultural experience. Last year’s Cup attracted 15,000 attendees who came together for a positive weekend packed full of eclectic music, definitive contests, engaging workshops, quality vendors and exquisite art.
The cornerstone of the Emerald Cup is of course the contest. In 2014, the judging panel made their way through 900 entries to declare Sweet Serenade, a hybrid bred and grown from a seed in Mendocino by Joe Peinado, number one in both the Breeder’s Cup and the Emerald Cup. This year, the most knowledgeable and respected judges from around the world expect to be presented with more entries than any cannabis competition in history. Each entry will undergo a full spectrum of tests (microbiological, pesticide, residual solvent, and cannabinoids/terpenes, as applicable) by SC Labs to ensure the Cup’s stringent standards on healthy sun-grown organics are upheld.
The Emerald Cup and Weedmaps have partnered again in one of the industry’s most enjoyable and significant cannabis gatherings. Last year’s event sold out before the end of the first day; this year is sure sell out even faster. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind opportunity at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, California, on December 12th and 13th.
